1940s WARTIME EVENT GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY 2016

We all took a nostalgic journey back in time to wartime Britain,

as the 1940s came to life thanks to the many costumed re-enactors at Great Central Railway, Leicester!

There were lots of exhibitions and demonstrations including a static Spitfire display

and of course there were rides on the steam trains to enjoy.

Great talking to the re-enactors and a lovely weekend at Great Central Railway!

Whitchurch Heritage Centre

In December 1941 work was underway at the Old Rectory, Shropshire to create a GPO Listening Station.
The Old Rectory and it's "radio spies" were to intercept and record German coded messages, including Japanese diplomatic traffic, and send them to Bletchley Park.
A book, "The Old Rectory, Whitchurch, Shropshire" researched and written by Jean North, Madge Moran and Joan Barton details the history of the Rectory and these events in WWII. Jean North is pictured at Whitchurch Heritage Day event - 2015
